CNR S-2 2-8-2

In 1923 Montreal Locomotive Works built 35 mikados for the CNR which designated them as S-2a at the same time Canadian Locomotive Works, Kingston built another 10 copies designated S-2b. In 1924 Montreal built 30 more mikados designated as S-2c. All three groups were identical sported 63" drivers, had a boiler pressure of 185# and had 55,000# TE.  They also had Belpaire fireboxes an usual feature for CNR. In 1931 twenty of the S-2a subclass received vanderbilt tenders which had been built with the N-5d class 2-8-0.  All worked their entire careers in the western region.  CNR was very pleased with their performance.  The entire class lasted in mainline service till the end of steam.

MINT COINDITION:   This Van Hobbies model has excellent detail. The front handrails are packed separate in the box - the way they came from the inporter.  It runs very smooth and quiet. I purchased this engine new and it is unpainted, test run only. Van Hobbies decals created for this model are included.

Original box and foam.
